  • What Are The Different Types Of Roofing Materials You Use?

There are several types of roofing materials, including traditional, designer, and luxury asphalt shingles, metal roofing, wood shingles, and shakes. Composite and natural stone or clay materials such as slate shingle tiles, barrel tiles, interlocking tiles, shake tiles, and graduated and tapered roof tiles.

We offer a variety of material options from trusted brands such as CertainTeed, GAF, Owens Corning, DaVinci, Brava, and Ludowici. All brands offer class III and class IV impact resistance rated materials ensuring lasting durablility and color vibrance.

  • How Long Does A Roof Typically Last?

The lifespan of a roof varies depending on the material used.

Asphalt shingles generally last 15-30 years.

Metal roofs can last 40-70 years or more.

Wood or Shake roofs have a life expectancy of 15 - 30 years.

Natural slate roofs often last for 100-150 years. While most composite slate or tile roof manufacturers offer 40-50 year warranties it is believed they can last anywhere from 50-100 years if properly maintained.

These life expectancies however are conditional upon your regional climate and frequency of damaging storm conditions.

  • How Often Should I Have My Roof Inspected?

It is recommended to have your roof inspected at least once a year, especially after severe weather conditions. Regular inspections can help identify any potential issues - like loose shingles, failing caulk, or minor gutter problems - early on and prevent costly repairs. While you may not notice damage on your roof from the ground or inside your home immediately there are a mulititude of factors that can cause hidden damage to the structure below if left unchecked. Hail, sunspotting, mechanical damage, thermal cracking, manufacturers defects, high winds, and inadequate ventilation can all degrade the decking below the shingles which can lead to wood rot, delamination, and water intrusion inside your home over time.

  • How Do I Know if I Need A Roof Repair Or A Full Roof Replacement?

Most roofs can be repaired if the damage is limited to a small area. You may need a full replacement if you see widespread shingle granule loss, curling or missing shingles across multiple sections, frequent leaks in different rooms, or if the roof is near the end of its expected lifespan. A professional inspection can help you decide the most cost‑effective option. If you are noticing or suspect any issues with the integrity of your roof we offer free inspections followed with honest guidance on any findings to ensure your home is protected against the elements.

  • What Are The Signs Of Storm Or Hail Damage On My Roof?

Common signs include bruised or missing shingles, dented gutters or downspouts, granules collecting in gutters, shiny or exposed fiberglass on shingles, water spots on ceilings or walls inside your home, and if a lot of your neighbors getting new roofs. If you notice any of these signs after a storm in St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson, or Franklin Counties, schedule a free professional roof inspection with us.

  • Will My Homeowners Insurance Cover Roof Damage?

Most policies cover sudden, accidental damage from events like hail, wind, or fallen trees, but not normal wear and tear, old age, or lack of proper maintenance. Coverage depends on your policy, deductible, and roof age. We often help homeowners through the claims process by documenting damage and providing detailed estimates for insurance claims. All policies and insurance companies are different and sometimes insurance carriers won't cover the true cost of all damages. We work within reason to maximize the value you get out of your policy in order to save you out of pocket expenses beyond your deductible and any upgrades you may want to make.  If you ever hear a contractor tell you that they can cover part or all of your deductible, RUN! That is insurance fraud and can have legal and financial consequences for both you and the contractor.

  • How Much Does A Roof Replacement Cost?

Roof replacement cost depends on the size, pitch of your roof, elevations, the materials you choose (asphalt, metal, etc.), the complexity of the project, and any necessary repairs to decking or ventilation. The best way to get an accurate price is a free on‑site estimate based on your specific home.

  • How Long Does A Roof Replacement Take?

Most single‑family homes can be completed in one to two days, depending on the roof size, weather, and complexity. Larger or more complex roofs may take a bit longer, but we always aim to minimize disruption and keep the job site clean and safe.

  • Can I Install A New Roof Over My Old Roof?

Building codes sometimes allow one additional layer of shingles, but we generally recommend a full tear‑off. Removing the old roof lets us inspect the decking, fix hidden issues, and install proper underlayment and flashing, which leads to a longer‑lasting roof and better warranty coverage.

  • What Is The Difference Between Class III And Class IV Shingles?

Class 4 shingles offer superior impact resistance, designed to withstand a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet, while Class 3 shingles can handle a 1.75-inch ball dropped from 17 feet. The primary difference is the level of durability, with Class 4 being the most resilient option, making it a better choice for areas with severe hail, and often qualifying for more significant insurance discounts compared to Class 3.

  • What Is Roof Ventilation And Why Does It Matter?

Roof ventilation allows hot, moist air to escape your attic. Proper ventilation helps prevent ice dams, mold, and premature shingle failure. It also improves energy efficiency and comfort in your home. During an inspection, we check your intake (soffit) and exhaust (ridge or box) vents to make sure they’re balanced.

  • What Other Services Does Perfect Pitch Roofing & Exteriors Inc. Offer?

Unlike many other roofing companies in St. Louis, MO, we offer gutter system, gutter guard, siding, soffit, fascia, and trim wrapping services to provide a one-stop-shop convience for our clients.

  • Why Are Gutters Important For My Home?

Gutters direct rainwater away from your foundation, siding, and landscaping. Without properly sized and installed gutters, water can pool around your home, cause hydrostatic pressure against your foundation leading to basement leaks, soil erosion, and damage siding, fascia, and walkways.

  • How Do I Know if My Gutters Need To Be Replaced?

Signs include sagging or pulling away from the house, frequent clogs, rust or holes, peeling paint beneath the gutters, water spilling over the edges, or pooling around your foundation. If you see seams separating or sections that won’t stay fastened, it may be time for new seamless gutters.

  • Are Seamless Gutters Better Than Sectional Gutters?

Yes. Seamless gutters are custom‑made on‑site to fit your home in one continuous piece, which means fewer joints that can leak or pull apart. They look cleaner, require less maintenance, and typically last longer than sectional systems from big‑box stores.

  • Do I Really Need Gutter Guards?

If your home is near trees, gutter guards can significantly reduce maintenance from clogs from leaves and debris, which helps prevent overflow, backups, and water damage. They don’t make gutters completely maintenance‑free, but they reduce how often you need cleaning and help your gutters work properly during heavy storms. We offer a wide variety of gutter guard options to fit the specific needs of different homes.

  • How Often Should Gutters Be Cleaned?

Most homes need gutter cleaning at least twice a year—typically in spring and fall. Homes with heavy tree coverage may need more frequent cleanings. Regular maintenance helps prevent clogs, ice dams, and water damage to your roof, fascia, and foundation.

  • What Size Gutters Do I Need?

The right size depends on your roof area, pitch, and local rainfall. Many homes use 5" gutters, but larger or steep roofs may benefit from 6" gutters and oversized downspouts to handle heavy Missouri storms. While 5" gutters used to be the standard, 6" gutters with oversized downspouts have more recently become the norm for most homes regardless of size with very little price difference between the two for added peace of mind, protection, and aesthetic appeal. However, we size your system based on your specific home and drainage needs.

  • How Do I Know If My Siding Needs To Be Repaired Or Replaced?

Look for cracks, holes, warping, rotting, loose or missing panels, bubbling paint, mold or mildew, and rising energy bills. If damage is widespread or the siding is very old, replacement is usually more cost‑effective and improves curb appeal and home value.

  • What Types Of Siding Are Best For Home In St. Louis, MO?

Vinyl siding is very popular in our area for its affordability and low maintenance. Fiber cement and engineered wood offer excellent durability and a more “wood‑like” appearance. The best choice depends on your budget, style preferences, and how much maintenance you’re willing to do.

At Perfect Pitch Roofing & Exteriors, Inc. we offer vinyl siding options from several trusted brands such as CertainTeed MainStreet Siding, Royal Siding, Norandex, and Provia. We also offer more durable low maintenance options like James Hardie fiber cement board siding, NewTechWood composit siding, and LP SmartSide wood siding.

  • Can New Siding Improve My Home's Energy Efficiency?

Yes and No. Modern siding systems often include house wrap and optional insulated backing that help reduce drafts and heat loss. Combined with proper installation and sealing, new siding can make your home more comfortable and reduce energy bills. However, this is usually due more to sealing up old gaps that allow drafts in as most siding manufacturers products do not have an R-factor rating.

  • How Long Does Siding Installation Take?

Most siding projects take a few days to a week, depending on the size of the home, the type of siding, and any repairs needed to the underlying structure. We walk you through the timeline during the estimate so you know what to expect.

  • What Are Soffit And Facia, And Why Are They Important?

Soffit is the material under the roof overhang that attaches from the siding to the fascia, and fascia is the vertical board along the rakes and eaves that the gutters attach to. Together, soffit & fascia protect your roof structure from moisture and pests, and soffit often contains vents that help your attic breathe and prevent moisture buildup.

  • How Do I Know If My Soffit Or Fascia Is Damaged?

Common signs include peeling paint, soft or rotting wood, visible holes or gaps, bird or insect nests, and gutters pulling away from the fascia. Inside the home, you might see moisture issues or poor attic ventilation. Damaged soffit and fascia should be repaired quickly to prevent bigger roof problems.

  • Can You Replace Soffit And Fascia Without Replacing The Whole Roof?

Yes. Soffit and fascia can usually be repaired or replaced as a standalone project. However, if there is extensive rot or roof edge damage, we may recommend addressing roof issues at the same time to protect your investment.

  • What Materials Are Best For Soffit And Fascia?

Many homeowners choose aluminum or vinyl soffit and fascia for their durability and low maintenance. They resist rot, insects, and peeling paint. In some cases, wood can be used for a more traditional look, but it typically requires more upkeep in our climate. James Hardie also has fiber cement board soffit and fascia options while NewTechWood has composit material options.

  • How Do I Choose The Right Contractor?

Look for a licensed and insured contractor with strong local reviews, manufacturer certifications, and clear written estimates. Ask about warranties, cleanup procedures, and who will be on‑site managing your project. Working with a local, veteran‑owned company that stands behind its work like Perfect Pitch Roofing & Exteriors Inc. gives you peace of mind.

  • What Kind Of Warranties Do You Offer On Roofing And Exterior Work?

We provide manufacturer warranties on materials and a 5-year transferable workmanship warranty on our installation. A workmanship warranty covers issues caused by installation errors, not just the products themselves. Always ask what is covered, how long it lasts, and whether the warranty is transferable if you sell your home.

  • Do You Offer Financing For Roofing, Gutters, Siding, Soffit, And Fascia Projects?

Yes, many homeowners prefer to finance larger exterior projects instead of paying all at once if they are not covered by a qualifying insurance claim. We partner with ACORN Financing so you can choose a payment plan that fits your budget, subject to credit approval.

  • What Should I Expect During A Roof Or Exterior Project?

We start with a detailed inspection and written estimate. We provide a "Notice to the Homeowner" and "Production Notice for Roofing and Siding" at the time of approval. On installation day, we protect your landscaping, remove old materials, make any necessary repairs, and install new products according to manufacturer specifications. We finish with a thorough cleanup, final inspection, and walk‑through so you can see the completed work.

  • How Long Does A Commercial Flat Roof Last in Missouri?

Most commercial roofs in Missouri last between 15–30 years depending on the roofing system, installation quality, and maintenance. TPO and other single-ply membranes can deliver excellent performance when properly installed and maintained.

  • Do You Offer Commercial Roof Inspections In Eureka And St. Louis?

Yes. We provide detailed commercial roof inspections in Eureka, Fenton, St. Louis County, Jefferson County, St. Charles County, and Franklin County. After the inspection, we’ll review our findings with you and recommend repairs, maintenance, or replacement if needed.

  • Do You Offer Maintenance Plans For Commercial Roofs?

Yes. Routine commercial roof maintenance helps extend the life of your roof and catch small issues before they become expensive problems. Ask us about setting up a maintenance schedule for your building.
